Building Our Future

History of Redeemer

Jeff & Nancy Hatton moved to Waco to plant Redeemer in the Fall of 1998.  They came from PCPC in Dallas, where Jeff had been a pastoral intern, trusting God had a purpose for them in Waco.  They started building relationships with about 25 -30 people, meeting Sunday evenings at Providence Hospital.  This gathering grew to about 60 over the next 8 weeks and Redeemer held its first service that November  at TCA.

In the summer of 2000, Redeemer moved from a mission church to a particularized church installing its first group of elders.  Redeemer  quickly grew to around 175 regular attendees and on March 19, 2006, held the first service at the current sanctuary where Jeff and Nancy have been leading ever since.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why now?
A: Over the years, God has graciously grown Redeemer Presbyterian Church both spiritually and numerically.  As our ministries continue to expand, our current facilities are increasingly limiting our ability to worship, disciple, fellowship, and serve effectively.  This expansion is intended to support the long-term ministry vision of Redeemer and create additional space for future generations.
Q: What is the estimated cost?
A: The estimated cost will be between $1.6 million and $1.9 million.  As planning progresses, updated financial information will be communicated clearly and transparently to the congregation.
Q: Will there be debt?
A: The Session understands the seriousness of debt and is carefully evaluating all financial options. Any financing decisions will be made prayerfully and communicated transparently to the congregation.
Q: Will worship service be affected by the construction?
A: There will be temporary adjustments during certain construction phases, but leadership and contractors will work carefully to minimize disruptions and maintain safe, orderly worship gatherings.
Q: How was the decision made?
A: A core team of leaders have been meeting for 2 years, strategizing the best way to move forward and when to implement the plan.  The group has been in constant discussion with the Session.  The Session has since spent significant time praying and evaluating ministry needs.  Construction and financial teams have also been formed to help assess the practical and financial aspects of the project.
Q: How is it being funded?
A: Funding is expected to come through a combination of:
  • Congregational giving
  • Capital campaign commitments
  • Existing reserves
  • Potential financing, if necessary
Leadership is committed to approaching this project with wisdom, stewardship, and financial responsibility.
Q: How long will the construction take?
A: The estimated time to complete the project is 4 - 6 months.
Q: How can members help?
A: One of the biggest ways that members can help is to pray that God will continue to bless Redeemer, help Redeemer reach both Christians and non-Christians in the Waco area, and that leadership will be wise with spending.  The other way members can help is to generously give to the project so as to minimize the amount of debt that is incurred.
